Blade Shapes

• Surgical Scalpel Blade No. 6 - Fitment Number 3. Fits handles 3, 3L, 3 Graduated, 5B, 7, 9, B3 and B3L.

• Surgical Scalpel Blade No. 9 - This distinctive, broad, "hatchet" shaped blade is utilised within Podiatry. Fitment No 3. Fits handles 3, 3L, 3 Graduated, 5B, 7, 9, B3 and B3L.

• Surgical Scalpel Blade No.10 - The No.10 blade with its curved cutting edge is one of the more traditional blade shapes and is used generally for making varying sizes of incision in skin and muscle. The No.10 is often utilised in more specialised surgeries such as for harvesting the radial artery during a coronary artery bypass operation, opening the bronchus during thoracic surgery, uterine incisions for a C-Section and for Inguinal hernia repair. The No.10 fits Handles 3, 3L, 3 Graduated, 5B, 7, 9 and B3.

• Surgical Scalpel Blade No.10A - The 10A is a straight edged blade with a strong tip and fits Handles 3, 3L, 3 Graduated, 5B, 7, 9 and B3.The Swann-Morton 10A blade became the tool of choice for graphic artists for decades until the desk top design packages changed the face of the design and print industry. In addition to cutting up type and Letraset it became noted that a sterile version was perfect for minor surgical procedures, like digging out splinters and thorns and eventually it found its way into the theatres alongside the more popular shapes .

• Surgical Scalpel Blade No.10R - Referred to as the "butter blade" the 10R can be used in Aesthetic procedures such as "Dermaplaning" which helps to "refinish" the skin's top layers through a method of controlled surgical scraping which exfoliates the epidermis. Shorter and more rounded than the 14 it is ideal for getting into smaller more restricted areas of the face and the rounded (bull nose) tip prevents any accidental snagging or scratching thus providing a more effective and consistent finish. Dermaplaning can be performed on small areas of skin or on the entire face and can be used alone or in conjunction with other procedures such as a chemical peel, microdermabrasion, or fluorescent pulsed light (FPL). Dermaplaning, when performed prior to other treatments, can remove the peach fuzz which can trap excess dirt and oil. The blades fit Handles 3, 3L, 3 Graduated, 5B, 7, 9, and B3. • Surgical Scalpel Blade No.11 - The No.11 is an elongated triangular blade sharpened along the hypotenuse edge with a strong pointed tip making it ideal for stab incisions needed when lancing an abscess or inserting a chest drain. It is held like a pencil and often upside down by the surgeon to prevent it inadvertently being inserted too deep. To avoid this scenario the scalpel should not be held towards the back end whilst the heel of the hand should be placed on the skin thus stabilising the hand to help prevent an unwanted deep incision. The No.11 is also used for other small incisions for example when inserting a laparoscopic port, vein and artery central lines ,opening the aorta and removing calcifications in the aortic or mitral valves, anatomical dissections and surgical treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower extremities in Podiatry. • Surgical Scalpel Blade No.11P - An extended cutting edge combined with a long, fine point makes the 11P ideal for stab incisions in soft tissue for the insertion of chest drains and Cardiac catheters. Fitment No.3. Fits Handles 3, 3L, 3 Graduated, 5B, 7, 9, B3 and B3L.

• Surgical Scalpel Blade No.12 - The No.12 is a small, pointed, crescent shaped blade sharpened along the inside edge of the curve. It is sometimes utilised as a suture cutter but also for arteriotomies (surgical incision of an artery), parotid surgeries (facial salivary glands), mucosal cuts on a septoplasty (repair of nasal septum) and during cleft palate procedures, ureterolithotomies (calculus removal by incision of the ureter) and pyelolithotomies (surgical incision of the renal pelvis of a kidney for the removal of a kidney stone - also known as a pelviolithotomy ). They are also be used within Dental surgery for raising skin flaps and for removing excess polymerised composite resin on the facial and interproximal region of the tooth during restoration procedures.The No.12 fits Handles 3, 3L, 3 Graduated, 5B, 7, 9, B3 and B3L.

• Surgical Scalpel Blade No.12D - The 12D, sometimes referred to as the 12B in the US market, is a double edged No. 12 blade sharpened along both sides of the crescent shaped curve. It is used extensively within Dental surgery techniques and fits Handles 3, 3L, 3 Graduated, 5B, 7, 9, B3 and B3L.

The No.15 fits Handles 3, 3L, 3 Graduated, 5B, 7, 9, B3 and B3L.

• Surgical Scalpel Blade No.15A - Fitment No.3. Fits Handles 3, 3L, 3 Graduated, 5B, 7, 9, B3 and B3L.

• Surgical Scalpel Blade No.15C - With a longer, more extended cutting edge than the traditional No.15 blade, the 15C provides additional reach for the Dentist carrying out Periodontal procedures especially when combined with the ergonomically designed B3 handle. • Surgical Scalpel Blade No.15T - The short rounded cutting edge combined with an angled point provide additional strength to this blade making it ideal for fine procedures in the hand and foot such as debridement (removal of dead, damaged or infected skin tissues) and heloma enucleation ( removal of a soft or artifical corn without damaging the surrounding tissue).
