The dressing is soft and highly absorbent, intended to take up and retain wound exudate within its structure while conforming to the wound bed. Its fluid-handling design supports use where sustained absorption is required and where dressing integrity on removal is important. The dressing converts wound fluid into a held gel on contact with exudate or sodium-containing solutions, so fluid is retained within the pad rather than pooling on the wound surface.
